John R. Mahoney

Jack is an experienced trial lawyer with over 36 years of experience.  Although he has tried some criminal cases, the vast majority of his practice is involved in civil lawsuits.  The types of cases he has handled include civil rights claims, libel and slander, products liability, breach of contract, land boundary disputes, dog bites, slip and fall, and motor vehicle accidents.

Jack has tried in excess of 100 cases in the State District Court, State Superior Court, and Federal District Court.  He has argued approximately 25 appeals in the Rhode Island Supreme Court and two cases in the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.  Jack has been given an AV® Preeminent™ Peer Review Rating by Martindale Hubbell which has the highest recognition possible in the legal industry for professionalism and ethics.

Jack brings his unique perspective to civil trial work having represented both numerous defendants and plaintiffs.  As a result of this diversity of civil work, Jack has been selected on numerous occasions by his peers to act as both an arbitrator and mediator in helping other attorneys settle their claims.

Early in his career Jack was a school teacher.  He and his wife, Kathy, brought up four children.  This background made it natural for Jack to also practice Special Education Law.  Jack has not only been a Special Education Hearing Officer, he has represented a couple of Towns and Cities and numerous families in helping to resolve Special Education disputes between school systems and special education needs students.
